WHY ARE WE HOLDING A DAY OF GIVING & UNITY?

MOST NONPROFITS STRUGGLE TO RAISE OPERATING DOLLARS TO SUPPORT THEIR PROGRAMS EACH YEAR. VERY FEW ARE IMMUNE TO THIS NEED. BY OFFERING NONPROFITS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DAY OF GIVING & UNITY, IT HELPS NONPROFITS MOUNT A FUNDRAISING EVENT AT NO COST. BY WORKING TOGETHER TO COLLECTIVELY RAISE FUNDS AND HELP DONORS GIVE BY MAKING IT EASY AND FUN, WE ARE ABLE TO HELP NONPROFITS MEET THEIR OPERATING NEEDS WITHOUT HAVING TO ADD YET ANOTHER FUNDRAISING AUCTION, DINNER, ETC. WHILE AN AUCTION EVENT CAN BE FUN, IT IS COSTLY TO ORGANIZE. A DAY OF GIVING AND UNITY MAKES ALL GIFTS REALLY COUNT NO MATTER THE SIZE. GIVING TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE BIGGER IMPACT FOR OUR COMMUNITIES!

Nonprofit information

The second annual Day of Giving & Unity will be held May 4th and 5, 2021. The 28-hour campaign will open May 4th at 8 a.m. and close May 5th at Noon. We anticipate more than 80 nonprofits in the 2021 campaign. Nonprofits that raise $2,000 or more during the campaign will receive a matching grant of $1,000 from Whitefish Community Foundation.

Glacier Bank, First Interstate Bank, and Park Side Credit Union will be accepting donations on May 4th and 5th at all locations throughout Flathead County and Eureka.  Donors can also drop off gifts at the Whitefish Community Foundation office in Whitefish.

In 2020, Whitefish Community Foundation and Flathead Community Foundation pulled together to make this campaign a far-reaching success, raising over $500,000 for 78 participating charities.

The campaign is free for participating charities.  Whitefish Community Foundation will organize the campaign including advertising and marketing,  and process all of the gifts. Nonprofits located in the Flathead Valley and Eureka are invited to apply for participation.  Application opens March 1.  (Nonprofits that want to be included in the advertising material must apply by April 15.)  Application to participate closes April 30 at 4 p.m.

Day of Giving & Unity – Frequently Asked Questions

Nonprofit Organizations: FAQ

    1. Why does a donor want to give to our organization through A Day of Giving & Unity?

On the day of the campaign, donors can give to many charities at once with just one gift. All they need to track is one tax receipt. It is quick and easy, and it will also help nonprofits earn additional incentives for more money including a $1,000 grant from Whitefish Community Foundation for raising $2,000 or more! It is important to note that this program is offered free to charities. It is a fundraising campaign that small and large charities can participate in without huge volunteer or staff time and expense.

      1. Can I promote the Day of Giving & Unity on my website, social media, and donor emails?

Yes, you can promote the Day of Giving & Unity through your channels and we have provided you an outline of marketing ideas that will help you make this campaign more successful for your organization and all the organizations involved. Download Day of Giving Logo Here

      1. When will my organization receive the funds we raise through this campaign?

Once the campaign ends on May 5th, WCF will work to calculate any credit card fees that were not covered by the donors, reconcile the gifts, create statements, and send out grants by ACH to nonprofits. We anticipate we can accomplish this by the 30th of May if not before.

      1. Is there a fee for my organization to participate?

There is no fee to participate. 100% of the donation will go to the designated nonprofits minus the credit card fees for the incoming gift, unless the donor selects to cover the credit card fee.

      1. Will I find out who donated to my organization?

WCF will send you a statement of all the gifts designated to your organization. The statement will include the amount of the gift donated and the address of the donor.

      1. Do we send a tax receipt to the donor?

No, WCF is receiving the donation and we will send the tax receipt. When the campaign is over you are highly encouraged to send a written thank you note to all of your donors.

      1. How will donors donate during the Day of Giving & Unity campaign?

The Day of Giving & Unity is a 28-hour campaign hosted by the Whitefish Community Foundation. Donations can be made online by visiting whitefishcommunityfoundation.org, donations can be dropped off on May 4 and 5 to the Foundation office, or donations can be dropped off at any First Interstate, Glacier Bank or Park Side Credit Union office or drive-up window located throughout Flathead County or Eureka, on May 4 and 5.

      1. How are the matching funds applied?

WCF will apply a matching grant of $1,000 to the funds you receive if your organization raises $2,000 or more, donated through the Whitefish Community Foundation during the Day of Giving & Unity campaign.

      1. Can I participate in this if I am participating in the Great Fish Community Challenge this year?

Yes, you may participate in both campaigns. Under the current economic conditions, we are holding this special day of giving to help local nonprofits that are struggling to hold fundraising events.

      1. Will I have a fund to log in to for this campaign like the Great Fish Community Challenge?

No, because this campaign is very short, it will be administered differently than the Great Fish Community Challenge. You will not have a fund portal, but will be provided a list of donors and donations after the campaign.

      1. Will there be Incentive Grants?

Yes! Whitefish Community Foundation will incentivize donors to give by offering a match of $1,000 on the first $2,000 raised by each participating charity. WCF will also award 24 $100 grants by drawing throughout the campaign. Drawings will take place over Facebook Live during regular business hours, with additional drawings done randomly and six drawings Thursday once all the donations from bank locations are received.  A  total of $2,400 incentive grants will be awarded. Donors are encouraged to give early and increase their chances to win.
