Is the Board Governing
- Presented by Ned Cooney, Facilitator/Consultant
April 8, 2021
10:30 A.M. – Noon
Virtual lunch to follow
We often talk about Board Governance because governing should be the central focus of every board, but what does it mean to “govern” an organization? How is that different from “running” or “managing” an organization?
As board members and staff continue to evolve, so do the organizations they serve. Regular self-examination and a common set of expectations are crucial to determine if the board has inadvertently shifted its focus away from the core task of every board; governance. During this session, Ned will introduce a framework to understand the work of the board, questions to ask as the organization evolves, and ways to encourage the board to engage in the right things.
Ned Cooney brings a unique combination of perspectives to his lectures, with experience as a grant-maker and grant-seeker; volunteer, staff, and board member in a variety of organizations; as well as an educator and consultant in organizational and academic settings. He is a former Board Chair of the Montana Nonprofit Association and has served as a member of MNA’s Nonprofit Public Policy Council since its start in 2006.
