Whitefish Community Foundation is offering two new nonprofit workshops this spring as part of the Nonprofit Development Program (NpDP).
Cindy Carpenter will present “Keeping Your Nonprofit Out of Hot Water: HR Do’s and Don’ts” on Wednesday, March 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. There is no fee to attend the workshop, but advance registration is required at whitefishcommunityfoundation.org/nonprofit-trainings.
Executive directors and managers of nonprofits are generally focused on their mission and may not have expertise in the area of human resources (HR), which can lead to liability for the organization. “HR Do’s and Don’ts” will provide an overview of some of the most common HR pitfalls that nonprofits encounter and how to avoid them. Topics covered will include recruiting and interviewing, the value of job descriptions and employee handbooks, the difference between an employee and a contractor, and more.
Carpenter holds two HR certifications – the SHRM -SCP (SHRM Senior Certified Professional) and the SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources). A University of Montana graduate, she has over 25 years of business and training experience primarily focused on human resource and people topics. To complement her training background, she has been a practicing HR professional in the banking, insurance, and manufacturing industries as well as owning her own business, Carpenter Business Resources, LLC.
Molly Pickall will present “Planning for Capital Campaign Success” on Thursday, April 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom. There is no fee to attend this online workshop, but advance registration is required at whitefishcommunityfoundation.org/nonprofit-trainings.
Nonprofits that are considering a capital campaign or are already in the throes of one will benefit from this workshop. Workshop participants will learn about the pillars of a successful campaign, including the case for support, donor pyramid, leadership and more. This workshop is for board members, executive leadership and fundraising staff.
Pickall is the chief philanthropy officer for American Forests with decades of experience managing capital campaigns and raising funds for nonprofits throughout the western United States. She previously served as a senior consultant and campaign director for Lindsay Simonds Consulting, chief development officer for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and associate vice president of field philanthropy for Trust for Public Land. She is a dynamic program builder with a passion for directing and growing fundraising programs ranging from $1.5 million to $45 million and managing and leading teams across the country.
