About Us

The Alano Club of Kalispell is a nonprofit providing a safe, sober space where individuals and families affected by addiction find fellowship, support, and recovery resources. Open 365 days a year, we serve the Flathead Valley through 12-Step meetings, sober social activities, and community partnerships.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the Club's chief fundraiser, community ambassador, and operational leader. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED drives long-term financial sustainability, builds the partnerships that extend our reach, and leads staff and volunteers in delivering our mission every day.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development

  • Design and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy — individual donors, major gifts, events, and grants
  • Write and manage grant applications from government, foundation, and corporate sources; collaborate with a contracted grant writer
  • Build and steward a portfolio of donors and sponsors through consistent, meaningful engagement
  • Plan fundraising events that generate revenue and strengthen community profile
  • Maintain donor records, acknowledgment systems, and reporting processes 
  • Partner with the Board to leverage member networks in support of development goals
  • Create and monitor an annual development budget, adjusting strategies as needed

Community & Partnership Development

  • Serve as the Club's primary external representative and public voice
  • Cultivate working relationships with treatment centers, hospitals, courts, social service agencies, faith communities, and recovery organizations
  • Pursue formal partnerships and referral agreements that expand access to Club resources
  • Represent the Club at coalitions, civic events, and public forums
  • Communicate the Club's mission compellingly to donors, community leaders, and the media


Operations & Leadership

  • Partner with the Club Manager on day-to-day facility operations — ensuring the space is safe, accessible, and mission-aligned
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop paid staff and volunteer leadership
  • Implement Board-approved policies and oversee member relations and conflict resolution


Board Relations & Governance

  • Attend all Board and committee meetings as a non-voting staff liaison
  • Provide regular reports on fundraising progress, partnerships, and organizational performance
  • Support strategic planning and translate Board direction into operational action

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget with the Board Treasurer
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of funds with accurate records and timely reporting
  • Monitor cash flow and diversify revenue to reduce reliance on any single source

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, donor cultivation, or major gifts
  • Strong relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including public speaking
  • Experience managing budgets and interpreting financial reports
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Genuine commitment to supporting individuals and families in recovery

Preferred

  • Personal experience in recovery (minimum 2 years sobriety) or close connection to the recovery community
  • Familiarity with 12-Step programs, traditions, and culture
  • Experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors
  • Established relationships in local recovery, treatment, or social services
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social services, or related field

Sparrow's Nest is seeking a Program Manager who is able to join our fast paced and rewarding work environment. We are looking for a self starter who has a passion for serving at risk youth.

Position Description

  • Functional Title: Program Manager
  • Supervisor: Executive Director
  • Pay Rate: $45,000+ DOE annually

Position Summary

The Program Manager manages the operations, programs, activities and supportive services for the basic and intensive needs of unaccompanied homeless youth residing in the house. This position is responsible for landlord tasks of the facility, monitoring residents and their responsibilities in a community living situation, supervising weekend relief staff and seasonal staff and providing emergency coverage. The Program Manager works collaboratively and effectively communicates with all staff to ensure youth and program success. The Program Manager will work full-time working with participants for a total work week of 40 hours. The Program Manager may be required to provide emergency coverage for other shifts

Essential Job Functions

The candidate must have strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally. Strong organizational skills are required. Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s License, proof of personal automobile insurance, and must meet insurability requirements for agency automobile insurance policy. The employee must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must ably use a computer. This position requires ably communicating with youth and other staff through talking and listening. Must have the ability to work with youth and their families with an objective, non-judgmental attitude.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide On-Call/Emergency Assistance and Coverage outside of office hours
  • Provides general support to the organization and facilitates adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Manages program expenses and purchases in conjunction with the administrative team.
  • Maintain connection with referral sources to obtain at minimum 50% house capacity
  • In conjunction with the outreach team, schedules appropriate weekly life skills, guest speakers and courses for residents.
  • In Conjunction with the Program Coordinator ensure that the house is properly maintained through monitoring resident chore completion and filling in when needed so that the house and grounds are clean. Responsible for entering maintenance requests and ensuring that the area of the house that needs maintenance is clean and ready for maintenance personnel.
  • Manages resident intake and admission process as well as discharge and transition plans
  • Use a strength based approach to develop, implement and monitor each resident's Individual Living Plan (ILP) and utilizes available resources in the community.
  • Partner with youth in improving independent living skills (cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, hygiene, laundry, maintenance, etc.).
  • Assist in providing support for school-based functions (homework, extra-curricular activities, meetings, ect.).
  • Provide proper documentation of inspections, searches, strikes, probations, phased admission, and drills.
  • Assist students with obtaining official documents which include but are not limited to: Social Security Cards, Birth Certificates, and Tribal Identification.
  • Provide direct supervision to all relief staff and program coordinator assist in the interviewing and training of new relief staff. Facilitate quarterly meetings/training for relief staff.
  • Assists with creation and implementation of crisis management plan for the organization
  • Assists with med management by refill/retrieve all prescription meds from the pharmacy.
  • Works closely and cooperatively with other social service entities (non profit, government, and schools. )
  • Facilitates in the implementation for models within the program.
  • Schedule and maintain a calendar for relief shifts. If a weekend or holiday does not have coverage, the coordinator/manager must provide coverage.
  • Complete all necessary written documentation, record keeping, data entry, and reports as required.
  • Assist in providing access to transportation for youth.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field or five or more years of progressive experience in social services program. A combination of education and experience is acceptable to meet the requirements of the position. Experience working with homeless and at-risk youth preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and policies regarding youth and families. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Ability to be sensitive and responsive to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with youth and families, as well as other permanent support people and professionals. Ability to view families, both biological and chosen, as resources and support systems for youth, and commitment to involve families in services, as youth sees fit. Knowledge of trauma informed care, harm reduction, and positive youth development and apply these philosophies to individual clientele. Knowledge of ethical principles regarding professional boundaries, confidentiality, etc.

Services provided are rooted in core principles of: 1) a strength-based approach which believes in the value and worth of each participant as an individual; 2) recognizing that participants’ needs are best met through holistic and individualized service delivery. Our youth development approach enlists youth as stakeholders in designing goals that are meaningful and aligned with the youth’s own individual skills, dreams and competencies.
