Kalispell, Montana

Reports to: Board of Directors

About Us

The Alano Club of Kalispell is a nonprofit providing a safe, sober space where individuals and families affected by addiction find fellowship, support, and recovery resources. Open 365 days a year, we serve the Flathead Valley through 12-Step meetings, sober social activities, and community partnerships.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the Club's chief fundraiser, community ambassador, and operational leader. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED drives long-term financial sustainability, builds the partnerships that extend our reach, and leads staff and volunteers in delivering our mission every day.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development

  • Design and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy — individual donors, major gifts, events, and grants
  • Write and manage grant applications from government, foundation, and corporate sources; collaborate with a contracted grant writer
  • Build and steward a portfolio of donors and sponsors through consistent, meaningful engagement
  • Plan fundraising events that generate revenue and strengthen community profile
  • Maintain donor records, acknowledgment systems, and reporting processes
  • Partner with the Board to leverage member networks in support of development goals
  • Create and monitor an annual development budget, adjusting strategies as needed

Community & Partnership Development

  • Serve as the Club's primary external representative and public voice
  • Cultivate working relationships with treatment centers, hospitals, courts, social service agencies, faith communities, and recovery organizations
  • Pursue formal partnerships and referral agreements that expand access to Club resources
  • Represent the Club at coalitions, civic events, and public forums
  • Communicate the Club's mission compellingly to donors, community leaders, and the media

Operations & Leadership

  • Partner with the Club Manager on day-to-day facility operations — ensuring the space is safe, accessible, and mission-aligned
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop paid staff and volunteer leadership
  • Implement Board-approved policies and oversee member relations and conflict resolution

Board Relations & Governance

  • Attend all Board and committee meetings as a non-voting staff liaison
  • Provide regular reports on fundraising progress, partnerships, and organizational performance
  • Support strategic planning and translate Board direction into operational action

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget with the Board Treasurer
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of funds with accurate records and timely reporting
  • Monitor cash flow and diversify revenue to reduce reliance on any single source

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, donor cultivation, or major gifts
  • Strong relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including public speaking
  • Experience managing budgets and interpreting financial reports
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Genuine commitment to supporting individuals and families in recovery

Preferred

  • Personal experience in recovery (minimum 2 years sobriety) or close connection to the recovery community
  • Familiarity with 12-Step programs, traditions, and culture
  • Experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors
  • Established relationships in local recovery, treatment, or social services
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, social services, or related field
