Transformational philanthropy often happens when the right partners come together at the right time. A recent conservation success in northwest Montana demonstrates just how powerful that collaboration can be.
The Foys to Blacktail Community Forest Project secured more than 1,100 acres of high-priority land near Kalispell, protecting wildlife habitat, preserving public access, and preventing future development on a cherished landscape.
What made this effort particularly impactful was the coordinated approach: Flathead Land Trust, Foys to Blacktail Trails, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Trust for Public Land, community organizations, donors, and our team worked in lockstep to move quickly when timing became critical.
When anticipated federal funding was delayed, private philanthropy stepped in. A group of committed donors, guided strategically through the process by our Whitefish Community Foundation philanthropy experts, enabled the acquisition to move forward without losing momentum.
By aggregating funding and aligning donor intent with community need, the project team was able to secure the property and ensure its long-term conservation.
This is where professional advisors play a vital role.
By helping clients navigate complex giving opportunities—especially those requiring speed, coordination, and due diligence—advisors can unlock outcomes that might otherwise not be possible.
Whether the goal is land conservation, community development, or another philanthropic priority, having a trusted partner to structure and facilitate giving can make all the difference.
Our role is to support advisors and their clients throughout this process: identifying opportunities, vetting nonprofit partners, structuring gifts, and ensuring that philanthropic goals are met with clarity and impact.
